08/06/2017 - College PREP - San Diego, CA - Abbey Ward is a 2019 outside hitter. Abbey shows clean technique in her arm swing and offers varied shots. She is continuing to focus on her timing and approach. With faster footwork she will develop more momentum and be able to get to the ball faster and quicker off the ground. Her defense is her stronger skill where she produces quality passes and make plays. She has good footwork and presents a solid, simple platform angled to target. She continues to focus on stay low the entire time and not popping up while passing. From the end line she has an effective consistent serve that crosses the net low. At times she drops her elbow causing her contact to be more under the ball and ball not come off as clean. As she continues to develop she is focused on keeping her elbow up and driving a consistent serve where she can hit different zones. As a blocker she is able to get some quality touches where she is slowing down the hitter and popping balls up for her defenders. She needs to continue on her timing and getting with the other blocker to close. Entering her junior year Abbey still has time to make some adjustments and continue to build her game. We are anxious and excited to see her continued improvement.
