08/06/2017 - College PREP - San Diego, CA - Torrey Coan is a 2019 outside hitter. Standing just under six feet tall she is an effective attacker and blocker from the outside. She has a good fundamentally sound arm swing that is fast and consistent. She shows good control of her arm swing and has varied shots. She continues to develop by working on her timing and eliminating the forward arm swing when approaching. She just has to remember to relax her arms down in front on her first two steps and then pull back when she is loaded - this will allow her better momentum and get her off the ground faster. Better timing will also keep the ball more in front which she then will see a big increase in the effectiveness of her attack. As a blocker she takes up space at the net and gets quality touches on the block. Continuing to work on her penetration and lining up not he shoulder of the hitter will make her an even more effective blocker. Defensively she is able to put up a quality pass in a good location for the setter. he just needs to continue staying disciplined and limit her body movements. From the end line she has a consistent standing float serve and top spin. Both have good speed and pass low to the net. We would like to see her develop a jump float as we think it will be the more effective serve out of the three for her based on her strength, contact and vertical. Overall Torrey is continuing to work hard as a six rotation outside hitter and we are excited to see her continued progress. W know that she will be a good addition to a future competitive program.
